Murphy’s Law 2.0

Good evening me hearties. It’s been another wee while since I last was here. Life has taken over as usual and I wish this post would have a lighter tone.

Work usually drags me away from home for some periods of time and last week was no different. My good luck is as good as ever, if not even better. Since I can’t take neither my dog nor my cat with me, whenever I am absent from home, I have someone who takes care of them when I am gone.

Among the various things that have happened to me lately, my cat, who never leaves the house (ever, in all the time I had her) decided to go missing. She went missing for about three days now (my friend did not want to call me the first night she went missing because he thought she’d eventually come back and he didn’t want to alarm me as well.) She hasn’t so far. I got home yesterday and still no sign of her.

Her name is Penelope. I named her after Ulysses’ wife. She was a stray cat. I found her one day when she was being chased and tormented by some deranged kids who thought that cats, kerosene and fire would make a neat game. Her body was badly burnt, but she recovered from it all. She grew to be a shiny, fluffy fur ball with some temper. I’ve had her for nearly eight or nine years now. She has been pretty much the one constant in my life for a long time now. She has, undoubtedly, outlasted every relationship I ever had.

I’ve searched for her every now and then since I got home. Left her bungalow and blanket on the porch as well as some food, still hoping. If she died (house is cornered by two roads), she didn’t die nearby, there is no sign of her. My dog has been restless as well, seeing all this and not seeing the cat. She’s been sniffing the entire house out as well as the yard.

Needless to say, my heart is so very heavy right now and I cry my eyeballs out every five minutes. All the bloody things that have happened in the last couple of months also decide to wash over and well… It hasn’t been pretty.

This can’t really be happening, because it’s not yet time for us to say goodbye, Penelope. So, please, just come home.

I like to think that I have improved a bit in that department since, but I still feel like an amateur. It’s a shame that these things have gone out of fashion. Moleskine notebook.
